# Apgar score

Status: WEDGE
Price: $0.005 USDC
`GET /api/calc/apgar`
HTML: https://magentlab.com/docs/apgar
Markdown: https://magentlab.com/docs/apgar.md

Not a medical device. Not a diagnosis, dose, or listing recommendation.

## What it computes

Compute the Apgar newborn evaluation score as the sum of five caller-assigned 0-2 signs.

## When to use

When an agent needs the published Apgar total from five signs and must not invent the sum.

## When not to use

- Not a diagnosis and not a resuscitation, prognosis, or discharge recommendation.
- Each sign is a caller-supplied integer 0-2. magent does not observe color, heart rate, reflex, tone, or respiration.
- Apgar 1953 defines the five signs and 0-2 points; it does not publish later 0-3 / 4-6 / 7-10 interpretation bands.

## Formula

```
APGAR = appearance + pulse + grimace + activity + respiration; each 0-2; max 10
```

## Citation

A proposal for a new method of evaluation of the newborn infant

DOI: none

## Worked example

### Appearance 1, pulse 2, grimace 1, activity 2, respiration 2

Given: `activity=2, appearance=1, grimace=1, pulse=2, respiration=2`

1. appearance 1 + pulse 2 + grimace 1 + activity 2 + respiration 2
2. Score = 8

## Parameters

- `appearance` (integer, required): Color (A). Integer 0, 1, or 2 as assigned by the caller.
- `pulse` (integer, required): Heart rate (P). Integer 0, 1, or 2 as assigned by the caller.
- `grimace` (integer, required): Reflex irritability (G). Integer 0, 1, or 2 as assigned by the caller.
- `activity` (integer, required): Muscle tone (A). Integer 0, 1, or 2 as assigned by the caller.
- `respiration` (integer, required): Respiratory effort (R). Integer 0, 1, or 2 as assigned by the caller.

## Bulk (POST)

POST the same path with a JSON items array. Price is n times the GET unit. Invalid items return HTTP 400 before settlement.

Method: `POST /api/calc/apgar`
Max items: 25
Price: unit_amount * n (unit 5000 atomic)
Status: PREVIEW

- 1 to 25 items. Each item uses the same keys as the GET query parameters.
- The first invalid item fails the whole request (index in the 400 JSON). You are not charged.
- HTTP 200 is {count, path, items}. Each items[i] is the GET 200 body for that row.
- Catalog misses (empty matches, found=false) stay paid 200s inside that slot.
- x402 resource URL is this path plus n and body_sha256. Browsers that prefer text/html get the same paywall as GET; Pay retries POST with the same items.

Example request:

```json
{
  "items": [
    {
      "activity": "2",
      "appearance": "1",
      "grimace": "1",
      "pulse": "2",
      "respiration": "2"
    },
    {
      "activity": "2",
      "appearance": "1",
      "grimace": "1",
      "pulse": "2",
      "respiration": "2"
    }
  ]
}
```

## Payment

Required query parameters must be present and valid. Invalid params return HTTP 400 JSON before settlement. magent does not charge. Fix the params, then request a new 402 quote for that complete URL. Catalog misses (empty matches, found=false) are valid paid 200s.

## Guarantees

- Invalid query parameters return HTTP 400 before settlement. You are not charged.
- Settlement finishes before the tool executes. Uncertain settlement fails closed (HTTP 503).
- Execution is timeout-bounded and concurrency-capped.
- Calculator inputs are not persisted. Request logs store path without query.
